2025 Youth Appreciation Week Scholarship Contest

AWARDS: $2,000 first place scholarship 

$1,000 second place scholarship

The award money will be sent to the college or institution that you will attend.

CONTEST RULES: The contest is limited to Frederick County Maryland high school juniors and seniors. The scholarship must be used within three (3) years of graduation from high school. The Scholarship Committee, upon written notice, will consider extenuating circumstances regarding the time limitations.


Students must complete the Optimist Club Scholarship Application with the following information inside a report cover or binder:

  • School transcript

  • School activities list, including any awards received and offices held

  • Community & Religious activities list, including any awards received and offices held

  • Home responsibilities and work experience list

  • A paper in paragraph format (not to exceed 300 words) summarizing your life goals


CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:

Academic achievements & School activities                     25% of total 

Community service/Religious activities*                            25% of total 

Home responsibilities and Work experience*                    25% of total

Financial need                                                                        25% of total


*State amount of time dedicated to each activity

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Entries must be received by Friday, March 7, 2025.

The winners will be notified and, along with their parents, invited to the awards reception on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 7:00 pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 705 West Patrick Street, Frederick MD 21701.  The scholarships will be awarded at the reception, so please reserve the date and time.  Attendance is not mandatory.
